Work, life and things in between – Day 46 – Back to books!
I am having coffee this morning with a good friend of mine who happens to have his own business here in Vancouver. He provides a lot of insights and inspiration to my quest. He even has some business proposal for me. We agree to wait another month or so (desperately trying to be on vacation here). Then we agree that meeting his partners would be the next step. So, more to come but nothing for now. This is fine by me.
Heading back, the hamster’s cage is rattling. Down boy, down! This is only a thought, not a bone!
I am on my way out the door when my friend from Montreal calls. She is in litigation over a contract that is very significant to her business, she just fired the foreman managing the construction of her house, her mother in law fell , broke her hip and needs to be admitted to the hospital, her daughter moved back in with her boyfriend, in my friend’s house, her employees in Mexico are threatening to walk out the job if she does not provide them each with a new mattress (globalization is not always that glamorous you know!) and she needs to prepare for a presentation to a new client next week.
Could I help her?
She is a friend. A dear one (not that I have friends who are not..) but she is special. Her and I worked our way up our career path together. Sort of like war buddies! How can I say no? Send me your stuff and make sure to book a series of massages at the spa, I tell her. You are a prime candidate to a serious melt down.
Today however, because the weather is so breathtakingly beautiful, I elect to first walk the sea wall instead of going to yoga or the gym. Can’t be inside for now.
Later this afternoon I am meeting with the outplacement counselor . I want her to agree to my plan to break the services in 2 periods, which she does. However, in the process, she introduces me to a world of information and seminars that would be extremely helpful . So I decide to attend some of them, as many as I can, between now and the end of next month, at which time we agreed to put the program on hold for a few months. I actually thought of putting it on hold for a few years, but that did not seem to impress her!
After a nice dinner, compliment of Sushi on Robson (Nop…cooking did not make it to the top of the list yet..), I sit down and start working on my friend’s presentation. She wants me to articulate the offering. I dig out my books, notes, presentations…let’s see if I remember how to do this! Ho yes! It is like riding your bicycle…it all comes back!
I am actually enjoying this. Let’s see how long this lasts. To day 47. I am having coffee this morning with a good friend of mine who happens to have his own business here in Vancouver. After a nice dinner, compliment of Sushi on Robson (Nop…cooking did not make it to the top of the list yet..), I sit down and start working on my friend’s presentation. She wants to offer HR outsourcing services as well as Coaching to the leadership team. She wants me to articulate the offering. I dig out my books, notes, presentations…let’s see if I remember how to do this! O yes! It is like riding your bicycle…it all come back!
Am I unknowingly designing my next job or am I merely putting a plan together for someone else?
Why is everything a question mark all the time? It feels like being on a treasure hunt. Every suspicious looking rock, or funny looking plant you think someone put it there intentionally….it must mean something!
And to think that I never liked the Murder and Mysteries party! Too bad. I might be good at it.
