Work, life and things in between – Day 69 – Yoga at last!

Just before leaving for my 10 am yoga class, I checked the schedule.  Good thing I did. They changed it.  It was now at noon!

Noon is more difficult to manage as it relates to food intake.  If you knew me you would know that food is very important.  I don’t do well without sufficient intake.  My brain shrinks and my body forgets how to function, sort of.  You do not go to hot yoga on an empty stomach.  That is for sure.  Try this once and you will know I am right!   Problem is neither can you go on a full one.  In fact, I am not sure which is worst.   So, this may seem trivial, but it is actually crucial.

Because I so badly wanted to go, I ate very lightly and left around 11 am.  A brisk 40 minute walk and I was at the studio.  I had not been to hot yoga in nearly 6 months. There is something to be said for persistance. Better late than never!

If you know the discipline you know it takes a total commitment to make it through the 90 minutes.  As expected, it was brutal.  Those who think that yoga is an easy form of exercise, think again! This type of yoga is not for the faint of heart.  It is intended to take you to the edge and challenge you to stretch it a bit further.

Being on the edge is not my favorite spot most of times. What I like about hot yoga is much more how I feel afterwards, than how I feel while doing it.  Odd? Does it make sense for me to do it then? Hmmm…I wonder, do I still have that shrink’s phone number?

Walking back, I reflected on what the Teacher said while explaining the importance of stretching muscles and opening up.  “Letting go creates space” he said.

With that in mind, I was not thinking of my muscles at all.  I was thinking of my plans for the future and how hard I worked at having a Plan A and a Plan B and sub directories to these plans etc….what if I just let go of all of this and created space?

    What might fill that space?

Writing? A book, and another one and another one? Drawing? A successful business on line? Depression? 30 pounds of excess weight? dexterity on the piano at long last!  Hard to tell.

Scary but how tempting! To day 70.
